Troubleshooting Your Boat

Thursday, March 18, 2010, 8:30am – 4:00pm Anacortes Depot Building
Instructor: Mike Beemer

Traveling the Inside Passage into British Columbia and Alaska can take you to some of the most beautiful and remote boating destinations in the world. This also means that you must be more self-reliant and able to troubleshoot and make minor repairs yourself.

Mike Beemer, “Mr. Marine Fix-it” will present a one-day course on how to diagnose and solve common problems encountered while cruising covering a boat’s engine, transmission, electrical, water and sanitation systems. The course will start with what a well-maintained boat looks like and things to do before you set out to distant anchorages. We will have several demonstration engines to provide hands on troubleshooting of common electrical, fuel, and overheating issues. Mini-labs that will show how to use a multi-meter for electrical, infrared temperature gun for cooling systems, and your eyes/ears for effective troubleshooting aboard your vessel. The course includes many tips and practical information that have proved successful from many years of cruising.

Regardless of the age of your boat, there are many tips and techniques that will be discussed in the class on how to make permanent or temporary repairs to “keep it alive” and make the passage as enjoyable as possible.

Course includes a booklet to take home and reference.
Light breakfast and lunch will be provided.
Tuition: $125
